Esophageal cancer is the fourth most lethal tumor in China, accounting for about half of the world's new cases and deaths each year, of which esophageal squamous cell carcinoma accounts for more than 90%, with a 5-year survival rate of 29.6%. With the advancement of radiotherapy technology and optimization of chemotherapy regimens, concurrent chemoradiotherapy has made breakthrough progress which has pushed the overall treatment situation of esophageal cancer to a fundamental change. Several international guidelines recommend neoadjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus surgery or definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy as a side-by-side choice for locally advanced esophageal cancer treatment, which provides a theoretical basis for the "organ preservation" concept for patients with locally resectable esophageal cancer. It provides theoretical basis and new ideas for the concept of "organ preservation" for patients with locally resectable esophageal cancer. In order to better guide the whole processing management of concurrent chemoradiotherapy for esophageal cancer, the Infectious Cancer Committee, Chinese and Western Medicine Integrated Esophageal Cancer Committee, and Esophageal Cancer Integrative Rehabilitation Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association have convened domestic experts in related fields. After several rounds of in-depth discussions and modifications, they systematically reviewed the latest domestic and international guidelines and evidence-based medical evidence, fully considering the specific conditions of clinical practice in China, to form the present expert consensus.

With the rapid development in the field of tumor immunotherapy, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) centered on programmed death ligand-1 (PD-Ll) have made significant progress in the centered on programmed death-1(PD-1) and PD-L1 have made significant progress in the treatment of esophageal cancer. Several studies have confirmed the effectiveness and safety of ICIs in the treatment of esophageal cancer, and have gradually changed the landscape for treating advanced esophageal cancer. At present, ICls have been widely used in the clinical treatment of esophagal cancer in China. To better guide the whole-process management of esophageal cancer ICIs application, and improve the scientificity and standardization of esophageal cancer ICIs application, the China Anti-cancer Association Esophageal Tumor Integration Rehabilitation Professional Committee organized domestic experts in related fields to systematically sort out the latest domestic and foreign guidelines and evidence-based medical evidence through multiple rounds of discussions and revisions, and reach a consensus among expert in this review by fully considered the specific situation of clinical practice in China.

Esophageal cancer (EC) is the eleventh most common type of cancer worldwide and constitutes the seventh leading cause of cancer deaths, with significant variability in its incidence among different regions. In China, EC ranks among the leading malignancies in the number of new cases and mortality, with significant disparities observed across gender and between urban and rural populations. However, with the development of China's health care, early detection and prevention, the incidence of EC in China has shown a decreasing trend, demonstrating the effectiveness of current preventive and curative measures in reducing the disease burden and improving public health. Here, we focus on the latest data and developments in the epidemiology of EC.

Esophageal cancer is one of the most common aggressive malignant tumors in the digestive system, with a serious epidemiological situation and a poor prognosis. The early diagnosis rate of esophageal cancer is low, and most patients with esophageal cancer are diagnosed with advanced stage. Multiple multimodal-treatments have gradually developed into the most commonly adopted approaches for esophageal cancer, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. The emergence of targeted therapy has greatly improved the survival rate of patients with esophageal cancer. This review summarizes the recent progress of targeted therapy in esophageal cancer, discusses the efficacy and safety of relevant drugs, summarizes the relevant important clinical trials, and attempts to provide insights into therapeutic strategies for esophageal cancer.

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) feeding represents the most effective and safest option for feeding patients with an impaired or diminished swallowing ability, despite having a functioning digestive system. In order to make it more widely used in clinical practice, this guideline aims to cover its indications, placement conditions, management, and nursing care. The use of PEG has evolved to be useful in many situations beyond degenerative neuromuscular disorders, with an increasing body of evidence supporting the advantages of PEG tubes in oncologic and pediatric patients. Risk factors for complications after PEG tube placement associated with malnutrition and several organic disorders. Patients suitable for PEG tube placement should be individually identified to implement the advantages of this technique while minimizing risk events. The safety of placing a PEG tube in patients under antibiotic prophylaxis in reducing peristomal infection. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy-related complications are rare and mostly prevented by appropriate nursing care. Best medical practice and nursing care will ensure optimal performance leading to a wider acceptance, and greater utility of PEG by healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers. Conclusion PEG feed as the most valuable access for patients with a functional gastrointestinal system who have abnormalities in swallowing mechanisms.

This review article delves into the advancements of organ preservation strategies in treating esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), a malignancy with significant global morbidity and mortality. The article focuses on four treatment pillars: minimally invasive operations, concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT), immunotherapy and the challenges currently faced in the organ preservation therapeutic paradigm. Minimally invasive techniques, such as endoscopic resection, offer a less morbid alternative to traditional esophagectomy, preserving esophageal function while effectively treating early-stage ESCC; Concurrent CRT has emerged as a robust option, demonstrating comparable survival outcomes to surgery in locally advanced cases, thus broadening the therapeutic landscape for patients unsuitable for surgical intervention; Immunotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment, and its integration into organ preservation strategies for ESCC shows promise. Despite the mentioned current advancements, several challenges remain. For instance, the lack of definitive predictive biomarkers hinders the precise selection of patients who will benefit most from organ-sparing approaches. Additionally, the management of treatment-related toxicities and the need for personalized treatment plans based on individual patient characteristics are highly limited to in-vitro and ex-vivo models. While significant strides have been made in organ preservation for ESCC, the journey is far from over. This article serves as a testament to the ongoing commitment of the medical community to push the boundaries of what is possible in the treatment of ESCC. Future research must address the identified challenges, leveraging multidisciplinary collaboration and innovative technologies to reach the ultimate goal, ie. to cure ESCC while preserving the esophagus, thereby improving the quality of life for survivors.

Objective To isolate and culture P. gingivalis from esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) tissues using fastidious anaerobe agar (FAA). Methods The effect of FAA was evaluated by assessing by assessing the growth cycle and colony characteristics of the reference strain Pg ATCC 33277. Positive P. gingivalis status was confirmed by qPCR. Tissue samples were homogenized and cultured through continuous streaking on the FAA plate in an anaerobic chamber. Preliminary identification of isolates was conducted using Real time PCR and 16S rRNA sequencing . Results FAA exhibited higher sensitivity and better suitability for the growth of P. gingivalis compared to Brain Heart Infusion Agar (BHIA) and Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA). A P. gingivalis strain (designated LyEC01) was successfully isolated from tissue of a patient with ESCC in central China. Using FAA in an anaerobic chamber, agar colonies and cultures of LyEC01 was obtained and purified. In addition, the strain was further analyzed through Sanger sequencing and mass spectrometry. Conclusion LyEC01 is a novel clinical strain of P. gingivalis, marking the first successful isolation from ESCC tissue using the FAA method.

Objective : To investigate vasculogenic mimicry (VM) in Kazakh patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), as well as its association with p53 expression and its influence on prognosis. Methods : A total of 76 Kazakh patients with ESCC who underwent thoracic surgery at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University between December 2010 and November 2015 were enrolled in the present study. CD34-PAS double staining combined with hematoxylin and eosin staining was used to detect VM patterns in 76 patients with ESCC and 20 patients with adjacent normal tissue. Results : VM was observed in 42.1% (32/76) of the Kazakh EC tissues. Both VM incidence and P53 expression were significantly associated with the degree of tumor differentiation (P <0.001). The survival rate of patients with EC with VM was significantly lower than that of patients without VM (log rank test, c2 =7.803; P <0.05). However, there was no significant correlation between the expression of p53 and survival (log rank test, c2=0.447; P =0.504). Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that VM occurs in the EC of Kazakh individuals and coexists with endothelium-dependent blood vessels. There is a synergistic effect between angiogenesis mimicry and mutant p53 in the malignant progression of EC, which is associated with the poor prognosis of patients with EC.

After patients schedule an appointment through the intelligent pre - consultation system, their medical history is automatically collected via mobile terminals and synchronized with the outpatient doctor's workstation. This process enables the automatic generation of electronic medical records, providing doctors with immediate access to comprehensive patient data for precise and efficient consultations. The system improves the early screening and diagnostic accuracy of esophageal cancer, streamlines the diagnosis and treatment workflow, and enhances the overall quality of care. By leveraging advanced AI technologies and evidence-based medical knowledge, this innovation addresses critical challenges in esophageal cancer management and aims to improve patient outcome.
